Talks have been surfacing about Nintendo needing to drop the Gamepad from the Wii U due to the technical problems for some developers finding ways to make BIGGER games 100% compatible with the Wii U's unique and innovative all-in-one touchscreen/tablet/controller/tv screen.
Sure, the Gamepad has it's problems, but it IS the largest selling point for the console, and much like the Wii's Wii Remote in it's early life it was more hated than heralded--but eventually it became a lot more familiar and set the standard for the future of Motion Control gaming.
Nintendo, who makes a living(as well as a small fortune) from what many would "teasingly"(or even negatively) call "GIMMICKS"--can afford to take such creative liberties. Taking the Touchscreen Tablet that many of today's Tech Geeks are well familiar with, add the standard buttons, bells and whistles we all know from Game Controllers(which, BTW are in fact called "Gamepads"), and turn the screen into a back-up TV, sometimes the main screen. Plus Nintendo has the benefit of one of the most solid financial bases to stand on.
Knock the Wii U for all you want, and I know we all still scratch our heads sometime--but the Gamepad WILL grow, and soon set yet another standard. Don't forget that the PS4 controller added a small touch-sensor, proving they have similar hope for what the Wii U's Gamepad is already setting a trend for.
Maybe Nintendo should consider making MORE games for Wii U that can offer a just-as-fun gameplay without needing the Gamepad 100% of the time, using Wii Remotes, or one of the Pro Controllers. But to drop the Gamepad would be an even dumber move than dropping the 3D from 3DS(I get it, we can't all handle 3D, and it does lead to eye problems--but still--you advertise it SO much, and then basically chuck it out the window)--but Nintendo CAN get things back on track.
