ANOTHER HEROIC CHAPTER...
One of my most recent games in the long line of LEGO Games available, was LEGO BATMAN 3--which is the 3rd(clearly) in the BATMAN games made by TT Games, one of my favorite 3rd-Party companies, and easily the KINGS of licensed LEGO games. Not only is it a great LEGO game, but it's also a terrific BATMAN game--which is just a great combination, yet again.
I won't SPOIL it too much, especially for those who have YET to play it, but if you played the 2nd game(DC HEROES) on Wii/Wii U/PS3/360, then you know that the Good Guys clearly beat the Bad Guys--but in THIS sequel, they have to team up to stop the evil BRANIAC. I won't say much more...okay, I'll throw in that you have a full representation from the LANTERN CORPS(Green Lantern, etc), AND...well, I'll stop there.
Let's get to the Ratings, shall we?
STORY: 10/10
LEGO games are always great adaptations based off the licenses we all know and love, and in BATMAN 3 there's just a great story. Action packed, a ton of fun levels. Even if you hadn't played BATMAN 2, you won't feel too lost, and like ALL games TT Games has made in it's life as a LEGO Game maker, it's easy to get into by watching the cut scenes between levels, and always simple enough to follow along. Having a proper voice cast helps as well, especially for me being a BIG fan of voice acting. Lex Luthor being played by Clancy Brown is always nice to see back.
GRAPHICS: 10/10
LEGO looks great in any light, and even in the darkness of some of the levels. The HD is crisp, the non-LEGO elements, such as water rippling in rainy levels, the landscapes you play in, and some of the worlds you visit are all just beautiful in the game. Of course the bricks, studs, and other things you break, smash, earn, and build are always a cheer to see.
MUSIC: 10/10
Classic and action-packed. Definitely some of the best in any LEGO game, or of anything with a score. The Danny Elfman'esque PROPER Batman theme music plays when the need requires, and the rest of the in-game score is fantastic. PLUS they threw in a couple classic gems--if you played BATMAN 2 you'll remember the John Williams' SUPERMAN theme playing when the Man of Steel flies around--that's back, but so is the 70's WONDER WOMAN TV theme when you fly as the Amazonian Princess. PLUS, and this IS a spoiler, you get the classic 60's BATMAN TV theme as well--not saying how or when you'll hear it, but it's there too.
GAMEPLAY: 10/10
Yes, another 10/10 for gameplay. As I've played practically EVERY LEGO game on consoles through the Wii and Wii U, I notice all the things they carry-over and bring back from previous titles. Certain moves and abilities return from past LEGO BATMAN games, as well as from LEGO MARVEL, LEGO CITY UNDERCOVER, and some of the older ones as well. Basic controls with or without the Gamepad are a cinch, it takes little effort to master the dual D-sticks on the Gamepad. BUT the wiimote+nunchuck option is there, and again, it's literally "child's play".
OVERALL: 10/10
I'm a biased LEGO and biased BATMAN fan--put em' together, and you have no problem. Great game, great graphics, great sound and music, great everything!!
I HIGHLY recommend this game to any fans of LEGO, BATMAN, or just anyone wanting a good time!
