Super Smash Bros for the Wii U lives up to it's hype. Though, we had the 3DS version a month early, after playing the Wii U version, the 3DS version just felt like an extremely big demo...But enough praising the game and let's get into this review. Some of the new key features of Smash Bros. is 8-player smash, which allows you to play up to 8 players at once, Special Orders, which splits into Master Orders and Crazy Orders, and Smash Tour, which is a game board like mode. Also, there is a bunch of returning features from the 3DS like Target Blast and Trophy Rush, and some features that were not in the 3DS like Stage Builder, Event Matches, Special Brawls, and the ability to change the appearance rates for items!
8 player Smash is a very interesting game mode as it has you fighting up to 8 people at once on an entire screen. And this can be done with 8 humans, 8 computers, 8 Amiibos, or however you want to set it! 8 Player Smash also brings in a new team color for team battles, Yellow Team. I decided to do a match with High Items on Great Cave Offensive and noticed no frame rate droppage at all... But I wouldn't recommend that combo... With that stages Danger Zones, the match can get very hectic, very quickly. Overall though, 8 player smash is a blast to play.
I haven't had the chance to play any of the Special Orders, but from knowledge, Master Orders is where you must do a chain of events and if you succeed, you gain a nice prize. Whereas Crazy Orders is where you must use a pass or pay an ante and if you lose, you basically lose everything, but if you can complete all the events, you will be greatly rewarded.
Smash Tour is basically just a game board version of Smash Run except you win fighters by dueling other players if you were to run into them on the board. You also collect power ups and certain trophies that either have an effect on the board by letting you steal other players fighters by walking past them, shuffling the fighters everyone collected, or slowing down the die, by walking over them on the board. At the end, there will be one final battle where each of your remaining fighters will be considered a stock for you and last man standing wins. I found Smash Tour to be extremely boring since the only way for there to be action on the board is if someone gets into a duel, on top of that, the damage ratio is high, so its very easy to get KOed fast.
Target Blast and Trophy Rush play the same way way as it does in the 3DS except for some small changes in Target Blast. It can now be played with 2 people competitively, and the bomb changes in sizes every turn, leaving you to use different tactics.
Event matches are now on this grid like structure and you now have a difficulty setting. There are also some events than can only be done with 2 people.
Stage Builder now allows you to draw your stage out with the GamePad, but you are very restricted to the amount of items, like spikes and platforms, you can add to the stage.
Special Brawls only have one small change, you can now start with jet packs and tonooki suits.
You can now do Co-op Classic Mode and do Multi Man Smash with up to 4 players at once!(9)
There are also many collectables you can obtain within the game such as CDs to extend to your vast amount of excellent music, a vast amount of of well crafted trophies, and masterpieces, which are timed, full game demos.
Gameplay is just like the 3DS version even though the game does feel much faster on the Wii U. For those who haven't played the 3DS version, its basically a hybrid of Melee and Brawl, but leans more closely to how Brawl plays. Unfortunately I did not have the chance to experience online, so I cannot report on how Super Smash Bros plays online for the Wii U.
Overall, I'll rate this game a 9/10. This game is awesome, and I highly recommend anyone to rush to the store and pick up this game, but due to the disappointing Smash Tour and Stage Builder, I feel the game isn't quite worth calling "Perfect".
