Ballpoint Universe: Infinite is a side scrolling platformer/shoot em up in a very unique style. The art style is actually drawn with ballpoint pens. Art style aside, the gameplay is really unique. It blends side scrolling platforming with shoot em up sections.
Gameplay: The gameplay consists of side scrolling platforming sections and shoot em up sections. The platforming sections consist of going around collection ink for the shoot em up sections where you use the ink for power ups.
Graphics: The art style in Ballpoint Universe is all drawn with ballpoint pens with a very monty python-esque style mixed with psychedelic visuals. The best part of the game in my opinion.
Music: The music in Ballpoint Universe is basic, but gets the job done. Not a whole lot to say about it really.
Wii U Features: Ballpoint Universe is a port of the P.C version, which came out in December 2013. The game features off-tv play, but there's some issues I have with it. For starters, there's no sound on the gamepad, it's all on the TV. Secondly, all of the dialogue in the game doesn't display on the gamepad either, again on the TV. I take issue with these because I don't find it all intuitive to keep looking at the gamepad and the TV. Also, if someone is watching the TV, you won't get any sound on the gamepad. That's the whole point of off-tv play.
Price: Ballpoint Universe: Infinite costs $4.99, which isn't bad, considering alot of Wii U ports cost alot more than their P.C counterparts. Incidentally, the P.C version of Ballpoint Universe costs $1 less.
Final Verdict: Ballpoint Universe is a really fun game, but it's lack of basic Wii U Gamepad features like sound on the gamepad really drag this game down.
6/10
