Enjoy- (Video Version on bottom)
The Wii U has been hurting for a good game and Mario Kart 8 is the answer to the Wii U's cry for help. Mario Kart 8 is in full HD, running at 60 FPS, even in 4 player splitscreen, giving you a beautiful, smooth and enjoyable racing experience that you will not forget. This game is submerged in detail. From tire marks being left on the track by every racer throughout the entire race, to immersive sceneries that each track has to offer making the game very gorgeous. The game controls similar to Mario Kart 8 when using the GamePad or a Wii Pro Controller or a Wii U Pro Controller, but the game also allows you to use gyro controls through the GamePad or motion controls with a Wii Remote. Motion controls in the game are actually pretty smooth and accurate in Mario Kart 8 compared to how they were in Mario Kart Wii. Mario Kart 8 also allows you to use Wii Remote and Nunchuck combo controls. The game allows you to use Karts, Bikes, Sport Bikes, and now ATVs in your races… The only major difference in the vehicles is with the sports bike, as they have a very sharp drift compared to the other vehicles. Customization for your vehicle has returned from Mario Kart 7, this is where you can choose the vehicle’s body type, tires, and the glider. Each item piece has a different effect on your vehicle, so not only are you styling out your vehicle, you are improving its performance too!
Music in Mario Kart 8 is fully orchestrated and also mixed with some techno beats to give you a great, unique listening experience on every track. In my personal opinion, Mario Kart 8’s soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks the Mario Kart series has to offer.
Online play in Mario Kart 8 is great. You can race solo against the world, bring a friend along in splitscreen, take it to a private lobby with up to 11 friends online, or join or enter a tournament. Online play is lag free, giving you no interruptions when you play. Online play does also support voice chat, but only with friends and before the race starts, to me this is a both a pro and a con since its great that voice chat was included, but it would have been better if I could speak to my friends through the entire race. When entering Public Lobbies, you can choose between Worldwide or Regional races, and from there you can do a typical race, a battle, or a race with customized rules, though to find a match, your opponent must select the same type of rules. In public matches, there is a rating system call VR. The larger your VR is the “better” you are. Players with high VRs are always matched together whereas players with low VRs are matched together. Also in public matches, when choosing a track, you have 4 options… 3 preselected tracks and one option for random, Random can be any one of the 32 tracks in the game. In private matches though, all rules are completely customizable to the host, and all racers can vote on any track of their choice. Tournaments are like Communities in Mario Kart 7. You may make your own tournament, or join one, and the points you earn in the tournament are tallied through the tournament’s life span.
A new feature called Mario Kart TV (or MKTV) has been added, this is just a way to review replays and upload highlights of your favorite moments during a specific race up to YouTube and Miiverse, though uploaded videos have a few restrictions such as you cannot use the slow motion feature or rewind or fast-forward the video. On top of that, you can only upload up to a 60 second clip.
My only issue with the game is battle mode. On battle mode, they have taken out battle mode specific tracks and you can only do Balloon Battle. Battles sometimes take way too long, since they now take play on full sized tracks and get very boring very quickly for the last 2 people… I would of have a better rating for this game if the battle mode had more to offer and had tracks designed for battle mode only, but the game is still a great game, therefore I will be giving it a 8.5/10. Everything is wonderful about this game, but if you are someone who likes to play battle mode, be prepared to be disappointed
