A "SQUARE" DEAL?
Kinda coming as a shock, and a bit of light-shedding reveal, SONY plans on selling off it's 9.52 million shares of SQUARE-ENIX(which was 8.2% of the Company)--which I wasn't even aware they even owned, but it does bring some definition as to how FINAL FANTASY was a Solely-SONY Franchise for so long.
The shares Sony wishes to sell will bring a NICE $47 Million sum to the company, and both companies have said they're changing they way they operate to boost "efficiency and profitability". Sony will also be selling a couple of their buildings, and has already gone through and laid off a few thousand employees, as well as selling off their PC division. Square-Enix has already announced they'll be closing their India offices, and look to be less-international as they had been.
I had NO idea Sony owned such a chunk of Square--and I wonder who'll be first in-line to snag those 9.5 million shares...?

If SE was worth half a da*mn; I'm sure Sony would have held onto those shares otherwise.

-BUMP- Nintendo has made an unknown acquisition for $100 million. ( sauce) My guess is that Nintendo might have acquired some of those shares of SquareEnix that Sony sold? I'm not sure; but it would be interesting if I'm right. xp |
