Frostbyte's Artist Spotlight
I decided I would start a thread where I would shine a spotlight on specific artists by posting a few songs by them and talking about them. I will periodically update with new posts focusing on different artists. Some of them may be well known while other may be rather unknown.
This is in hopes to introduce people to new artists they may have never heard of before. It also provides me with a medium to talk with others about musicians that I personally enjoy. So, with that, I guess it is time for my first spotlight.

The Smiths
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out:
Asleep:
Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now:
Girlfriends In A Coma:
Frankly, Mr. Shankly:
So, those are a few of my favorites by the Smiths. I'm a relatively new fan of theirs. I only started listening to them earlier this past Spring (2016), and still haven't heard most of their catalog. Even so, every song that I have heard, I have enjoyed.
The first song that I listened to was Asleep (linked above) because it was in a moving I was watching. I loved the haunting ambiance that the song had. I eventually bought the soundtrack to the movie, the whole soundtrack was amazing, and ended up looking for more songs by the Smiths. I knew the band, but I had never been inclined to actually listen to their music before. That was a mistake.
I would say that their greatest quality is the way that they juxtapose positive upbeat sounding songs with dark lyrics. If you didn't pay attention to what Morrissey is singing, you wouldn't know otherwise (see Girlfriend In A Coma or almost any of their songs).
I'm surprised at the number of people that I talk to who have no clue as to who this group is because, even before I listened to them, I knew who they were. They are amazing and are often cited as one of the most influential bands of all time. So, I think it's time for people to be aware of the genius of this group.
